Awesome book for educators December 24, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a high school computer science and robotics teacher. This book is perfect! The projects can each serve as the centerpiece for discussion of a particular aspect of robotics, whether exhibiting autonomous, remote control, assembly-line, or human enhancement behaviors. Wonderful job!
Robots that spark your imagination - In action video December 20, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2P0OQOI25417F If you're interested in LEGO Mindstorms NXT, you should take a look at the robots in this video review. LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT One-Kit Wonders has the building and programming instructions for these robots, and many more. There are no parts needed other than those in the NXT kit, making this book the ideal expansion to your Mindstorms NXT set.
Inside Information December 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm the only mother who is a member of the NXT Step Blog. When we decided to assemble another book of NXT models, I agreed to manage the project if others would come up with ten unique models that could be built with a single NXT kit---and they met the challenge.
Despite the requirement that we publish in black and white, I believe we have also produced very clear building instructions---another big plus for anyone building a robot.
If you are looking for a gift for someone who loves the NXT, this has to be at the top of the list----just below extra parts and an additional NXT kit!
Excellent Projects that you can really build! December 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own the first Idea book, the Inventor's Guide and I pre-ordered the One-Kit Wonders book, which arrived a week ago. Its projects are probably the best of the 3 books. Very doable, challenging, but they are very, very well designed and once finished, they work very well. They are a lot of fun to build for me and my 9-year old. This book is different to the two others mentioned here, because it goes directly into the projects without any introduction to Mindstorms building or NXT-G programming tutorials. So the content is fully dedicated to the projects. The download section of the blog forum is working OK, so now you can download the programs. And last but not least, when you get stuck at some point, you can always count on the forums for help. I posted a question and one the the co-authors replied to me within a few hours, with a solution. The book is the "tip of the iceberg" because there is a community around it that goes beyond the printed works.
The only wish for this middle-age reviewer (with a middle-age eyesight) is building instructions in glorious Lego colors. As in the other books they are in greyscale. To the credit of the authors, they did poll their readership in the blog about this when the book was still in the works, and the result was overwhelmingly in favor of B&W to keep the cost down.
This book makes my Mindstorms NXT experience so much enjoyable that I rate it with five stars.
An Imaginative Cookbook for Lego Mindstorms NXT December 11, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This imaginative cookbook for 10 appealing, and and instructive robots that anyone can build with just the basic Lego Mindstorms NXT kit is a valuable tool for any student receiving the NXT package. It will stimulate the imagination, and it provides complete well documented instructions to the construction of each robot and its programming steps. All too often children and adults receive a kit of parts without anything to guide their imagination in what is possible with the new package. I only wish that this cookbook came along with every Mindstorms NXT package, and also included thougts and questions about what could be learned with each robot. But it is a most necessary gift for anyone who receives the Lego NXT package.
